Mandate
The National Sports College, Winneba (NSCW) is one of the agencies of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, charged with the implementation of the sectoral mandate of Training Sports Personnel.
The training and development of sports became relevant since independence. There were attempts aimed at establishing a credible institution to provide sports training. Consequently, Supreme Military Council Decree (S.M.C Decree No. 54) 1976, moved the institutionalization idea but it became fully established and operational when the National Sports College was established by PNDCL 154, 1984. The Mandate of the College, by this instrument, is to train and retrain technical human resources in the sports sector.
The National Sports College was established by the erstwhile P.N.D.C. Government under S.M.C. Decree No. 54, 1976, in 1984, at the time Ghana’s Sports performance at the international level was experiencing a downward slide year after year as a result of the exodus of its Technical Human resources for greener pastures. As one of the agencies of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the College was tasked with the onerous responsibility of training and retraining the Technical Human Resource to replenish the vacancies created by the exodus, thereby supporting the development and promotion of Sports in Ghana.
At National Sports College, we offer a diverse range of courses tailored to meet the evolving needs of the sports industry. From coaching in the various sports disciplines (soccer, tennis, athletics, etc), sports management, and administration, as well as collaboration with some sports sector stakeholders to deliver sports programmes.
Our courses/training are designed to equip participants/students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to succeed in their chosen field.
Sports Facilities
The College has a standard Soccer Pitch, Hockey Pitch, and 8 Tennis Courts.
Catering Services
We offer catering services for our sports programmes, the community, and gatherings such as parties, weddings, and business events.
Hospitality Services
We render hospitality and accommodation services to our guests. This is where you can relax, escape from your daily routine, and experience comfort.
We provide hostel facilities for the Guests and the University community.
The College exists as a centre of excellence to train and retrain technical personnel in sports, and to organize seminars and workshops on sports programs. We identify and develop talents in all sports disciplines and provide sports tourism and hospitality.
To be a viable Centre of Sports Excellence capable of making Ghana one of the booming destinations to sports talents, coaches and administrators in the sub-region and to place Ghana high on the world map of Sports.
