2026 CERTIFICATE COURSE IN SPORT PSYCHOLOGY

The five-day Basic Certificate Course in Sports Psychology has successfully concluded at the Accra Sports Stadium, marking an important step toward strengthening the mental and psychological capacity of sports practitioners. Organized under the theme “Mental Preparation as a Driver of Sustainable Performance Enhancement in Sports,” the programme brought together fifteen participants from diverse sporting backgrounds, all seeking to deepen their understanding of the psychological dimensions of athletic performance.

The course was facilitated by seasoned experts, Dr. John Elvis Hagan and Dr. Medina Srem-Sai, who delivered comprehensive and engaging sessions throughout the training period. Participants were taken through a wide range of critical topics, including sports leadership, mental preparation strategies, performance and recovery planning, coach–athlete relationships, and effective approaches to coaching female athletes. These sessions were designed to equip attendees with practical knowledge and evidence-based techniques to enhance performance outcomes.

Beyond the classroom discussions, the programme placed strong emphasis on experiential learning. Participants actively engaged in practical sessions that enabled them to apply key sports psychology principles in simulated and real-life sporting contexts. This hands-on approach not only reinforced theoretical concepts but also built confidence in implementing psychological tools within their respective fields.

The successful completion of the course represents a significant milestone for the participants, many of whom expressed enthusiasm about applying their newly acquired skills. It also highlights the growing recognition of sports psychology as a vital component in athlete development and performance sustainability.

Graduates of the basic course now have the opportunity to advance their expertise by enrolling in the Intermediate Level programme. This next phase of training is scheduled to take place in September at the National Sports College in Winneba, offering participants a pathway to further professional development in the field of sports psychology.
